The client
Bo Parfet is among a relative few who have successfully climbed to the tops of all Seven Summits on separate continents. In addition, Bo is an active philanthropist and innovator in the area of social entrepreneurship.
In 2004, in conjunction with Explorers Club, Bo established the Seven Summits Awards Program, which rewards top students with grants to perform healthcare-related field research.
In 2013, Bo founded Denali Venture Philanthropy to formally fuse his love of business with his desire to support positive change in the world.
The client

The challenge
To begin the process, our primary focus was to gain a comprehensive understanding of the client’s identity and objectives in promoting both himself and his newly published book. Bo Parfet’s existing website was dated and bland in its design style, and thus did not convey his adventurous sense of life. The site was also heavy-laden with content, with just a small number of photos. As such, Bo needed a new site which reflected his values of adventure, courage and philanthropy, while keeping visitors engaged.
The outcome
The new website conveys an attitude of outdoors adventure, by using a somewhat rough and edgy look, accentuated by torn edges, grunge halftone backgrounds, dotted ruling lines, and the selection of photos and icons.

Home page

One of the standout features is the large panoramic hero image, showcasing Bo’s mountain expedition. Bo took this photo. With a blue tint overlay, the photo adds an adventurous touch to the overall aesthetic. The image captures the spirit of exploration and creates a captivating focal point. The rectanglar buttons, with upper caps, adds a sense of stability and strength. For the value proposition, we came up with “A mountain climber’s perspective on leadership,” conveying the central message and benefit of the site.

The new website conveys an attitude of outdoors adventure, by using a somewhat rough and edgy look, accentuated by torn edges, grunge halftone backgrounds, dotted ruling lines, icons and the selection of photos taken by Bo on his expedition.

The color pallet uses earth tones and deep blues to convey an outdoor sense, along with golden rod, to offset the cool and muted colors with a warm, sunny color.
The fonts offset the edginess, by bringing an element of elegance to the website.

Social flex with testimonial. A circled photo and mountain icon add visual interest.

In addition, the open layout and variation among the sections offers visual breathing room and interest for a smoother user experience, thus encouraging visitors to explore the website.

Reviews
Reviews are a valuable tool to help building trust, demonstrate value, and persuade potential customers of a product or service’s effectiveness. Testimonials add a human element to a website.
As such, it is important that visitors to the site read at least some of the reviews, and thus the visual layout and design are important in fostering engagement. Here, the reviews are staggered with alternating colors to add visual interest, while maintaining a sense of cohesiveness among the reviews.

The impact
Bo feels very good about the new site. Thus far, it has attracted many new visitors, who have purchased his book and signed up to attend his speaking engagements.
